Life Project Education
Life Project Education is a grassroots holistic education center nestled in an intimate nature-rich community in the area of Bahia Ballena, Costa Rica.
Our unique programs offer opportunities for children, families, and teachers to explore the interconnected layers of their humanity that are traditionally undermined in modern systems. In addition to nurturing critical intellect, Life Project visitors are equally exposed to experiences that ignite emotional, social, artistic, moral, psychological, physical, aesthetic, creative, and intuitive layers of development.
And we do most of it outdoors, surrounded by the pristine energy of the rain forest, in the “happiest country on the planet.” (happy planet index) Pura Vida!
Supported by the most cutting-edge research in the realms of quantum physics and Holistic Learning Theory, we educate through an energetic lens, treating our students as sovereign, non-standard beings. The mechanical worldview that predominates current constructs of learning, teaching, healing, and living is not only incomplete, it is intuitively-obsolete.

2020 and 2021 have undoubtedly been challenging years for children and families around the globe. At Life Project Education, we believe that in times of disruption, we are required to reflect, to question, and to change. This is when most learning happens, which offers an amazing opportunity to learn about ourselves, our families, our community, and our world.
We are grateful to be able to offer support to families through these times and continue this journey of learning together. Although our current offerings have changed from previous years due to Costa Rican schools closures, we are now delighted to extend our modified offerings to new families and announce that we are once again open for enrollment.
Sobre Nosotros
Mindful Heartfelt Workshops:
Learning objectives include self-regulation, character education, breath work, verbal and non-verbal communication, compassion, virtues, and nurturing a child’s sense of self through heart connection, spirituality, creative expression, and general wellness. Mindful movement workshops are included throughout the year including martial arts, ecstatic dance, yoga, cooperative games, stretching, gymnastics, and callisthenic
exercise.
Bilingual Education:
Our bilingual curriculum and team nurture “simultaneous bilingualism” within our young local children, most of whom have been exposed to two or more languages since birth. Daily exposure and opportunities to use and learn both English and Spanish equally, encourages and honors our children’s natural language acquisition. Non-local, visiting children are immersed in a language-rich environment, experiencing and acquiring both English and Spanish socially through play and adult modeling. Private Spanish instruction is also available.
Project-Based Learning:
Topics may be customized to children’s level, interests, and strengths but in general incorporates an authentic age-appropriate challenge or problem to be solved, partner or small group collaboration, student-centered inquiry and problem-solving, and presentation of learning. Previous topics included: raising awareness about endangered wildlife in Costa Rica, designing a home-school garden & compost, and developing a student-led business creating organic home and body products, hosting a student-led art festival, and organizing a community sea turtle release event.
Individualized 'Life Projects':
Nurturing a child’s own natural talents and personal passions facilitate the discovery of their intrinsic “calling”, an element that is tragically ignored and stifled in traditional settings. Personalized early education is a direct pathway to help children recognize and fulfill their full potential. “Life Projects” include fully customized, individualized learning goals based solely on the child’s joys and gifts. As mentors, we support children in identifying topics and skills to explore and nourish.
Global Village School Curriculum:
Life Project Education proudly partners with WASC accredited Global Village School, a holistic education program in California. Families may elect to dually enroll in both Life Project Education’s program as well as the GVS program in order to receive a fully accredited verification of grade completion.
All of life is interconnected, so is the curriculum within our programs.
As parents and educators, we must first acknowledge that children are organisms, not mechanisms. Our unique inter-disciplinary student projects and Family Retreats emphasize holistic learning values such as understanding our place and potential within the universe, physical health and nutrition, energetic health and mindfulness, and connection to the natural world and dynamic communities.
Empowering children (and families!) to develop their authentic passions, purpose, and life path requires a new approach to teaching and learning. We believe the role of the teacher should move far beyond that of mere transmission and transaction.

Integration of learning models and theories based on cutting-edge quantum physics, neuroscience, child development, and basic human ethics have inspired the evolution of our energy-driven, student-centered program. We are committed to methodologies that honor the profound significance of childhood with integrity and a curriculum designed with an understanding of children’s natural rhythms, biology, and humanity.
Our holistic, project-based pedagogy is flexible and inspired by revolutionary thinkers such as Dr. Amit Goswami, Rudolf Steiner, Alan Watts, Maria Montessori, Sri Krishnamurti, Ram Dass, and Sir Ken Robinson. Instruction is not disconnected and isolated, driven by tests, politics, nor corporate curriculum; it is mindfully driven by heart, authenticity, and pure joy.
