A Self-sustaining, Creative, Eco-ashram

Our Community

The Sat Yoga Community moved full-time to the ashram land in January 2015, after initial modest constructions were ready.

Currently consisting of 25 pioneering souls, our group has gathered from many different countries, with a wide range of professional backgrounds and ages, ranging from our early twenties to late sixties.

We are developing and refining our capacity for constant cooperation, empathy, caring, and compassion, so that we may live in—and offer a refuge of—pure sacred communion.

Community Life

Offering a dynamic yet disciplined lifestyle, that goes beyond the current consumerist model, our way of life emphasizes the value of ongoing learning, creative expression, rapport with Nature and the Cosmic Self, consistent meditation practice, uplifting relationships, and cheerful service to visitors, the community, and the world.

Just like traditional ashrams, our paradoxical neo-ashram abides by the traditional yogic vows, known as the Yamas and Niyamas, as well as our own unique dharmic principles. These agreements help instill a dedication to the highest ideals and ensure a harmonious energy field for all.

How to Keep Thriving as a Community?

Developing a Prema Culture

The skills that are needed to succeed in creating flourishing communities are not merely such external competences as food growing, water management, and appropriate design. We must refine our social skills to prevent or mediate conflicts and to bring about reconciliation when disharmony threatens. We must develop our creativity to keep life always filled with growthful cultural activities. We must transform into sages and Bodhisattvas.

The key is the constancy of the flow of prema—a Sanskrit word for divine love. Without love for one another as God’s children, love for learning, love for undefiled life, love for our sacred Earth, and love for the Source of Being, we are lost. But until we have merged with our own inner source of love, our most precious resource is not secure. Only our becoming Love will ensure our survival.

The core institution of this community is a wisdom school that transmits the skills of healing, peaceful and authentic communication, and the gnosis that unites us all. Learning and transforming, silencing the mind and opening the heart—these are the ingredients of our daily bread.

Our moral and generous commitments to giving and mutuality compose a superstructure that keeps our spiritual family united. It is a simple and pure way of life that everyone accepts. The Dharma functions as a psychic immune system of the community, enabling us to traverse those moments of crisis that are inevitable in any group, but which offer blessings of growth and rededication when properly faced.

Combining forces with our neighbors

The ashram project would not have been possible without the help of a group of extraordinary people from the region who have come to work here. These men and women—from such nearby villages as San Cayetano, Savegre, Calle Mora, Santa Rosa and Santa Marta — offer an array of amazing skills and expertise that help sustain the ashram.

We hope to keep expanding and deepening the offerings of educational seminars, counseling, meditation teaching, and general communal support that we give to the people of the region, and to Costa Rica as a whole.

Mission

or many years, we have had the privilege of sharing the abundance of Shunyamurti’s teachings freely with the world across our social media channels. Those that were considered too advanced, too subtle, too nuanced, and too unbearably direct have only ever been offered at the ashram.

We have now expanded our Members Section to include these secret teachings so that you can traverse this time of tribulation with empowered discernment and a clear path to Liberation. These gems of insight contextualize the current events in our world in relation to the vertical dimensions, in order to recognize the blessings hidden in the chaos and constraints, and the way that leads to the highest destiny.
